Overstory began with custom furniture commissions built one piece at a time in my Northeast Portland workshop. The focus is on thoughtful design that will outlast the latest trends, solid construction that will outlast us all, and beautiful wood – always personally selected by me, one board at a time.

If you’re interested in commissioning a custom piece of furniture, I invite you to learn about the process of working together and get in touch whenever you’re ready.

O V E R S T O R Y GOODS

In late 2025, I expanded into smaller objects with the launch of OVERSTORY GOODS, my online shop. While smaller in size than my furniture productions, these objects are constructed from the same top-tier materials and built using the same tools and techniques.

The idea began on a trip to Iceland, where I was captivated by the basalt columns I saw all over the island – towering rock formations created millions of years ago as molten lava cooled and contracted into repeating hexagonal shapes. They almost seemed man-made, yet they’re entirely shaped by nature.

Beautiful, functional objects for the home.

Months later, back home in the Pacific Northwest, I came across another striking basalt column formation on a hike in the Columbia River Gorge and I began thinking about how to translate that structure into wood.

That spark became the first Basalt bud vase, which was quickly followed by a number of other ideas for beautiful, functional objects for the home.
